Nine Mile Canyon
Nine Mile Canyon is located about 26 1/2 miles northeast of the town of Wellington, Utah. It contains approximately 1000 different panels of rock art, including both petroglyphs and pictographs, and an abundant number of other archeological ruins and artifacts from the people who lived there long ago. But this web site is dedicated to the rock art panels that are found there and is hopefully helpful to the many tourists and other interested people who visit the canyon on a regular basis. In doing so, I want to explain that the site numbers I use in this expose are taken directly from a book published in 2003 which is titled Horned Snakes and Axle Grease, by Jerry and Donna Spangler, a work I strongly recommend to anyone who visits the canyon and wants to know more about it. This book is an invaluable reference to the canyon and will give all who read it a great deal of wonderful information and insight into the various indiginous people who occupied Nine Mile Canyon throughout the early history of the state of Utah. My web site is in no way intended to replace the book or to critique it but simply to amplify the visual experience of a visitor who likes to see what ancient people decided to leave behind when they lived there. Most of the following links refer to a specific panel described in the Spangler book and use the same site number that is described in that book.
