Site 35
Site 35 is about 4.2 miles from Argyle Canyon and is often called the Sandhill Crane site. The Spangler book calls this site one of the best in the canyon and I agree because of the numerous panels here. The panel just below is one of the best in the canyon and can be seen from the road but the land is private and I suggest that it be viewed with binoculars. The top panel is high above the road just outside the western edge of Current Canyon. At the right is a photo of the panel taken with a drone. Also, farther down on this page are some other panels that are less interesting but easily seen from the road just west of the Sandhill Crane panel. And there is a parking area at the mouth of the canyon and it is an easy walk on the road to the Sandhill Crane panel. And there are other panels inside the mouth of the canyon high above the parking lot on the western wall. A drone picture of those panels are at the bottom of this page. I gave a closeup photo of each panel for your edification.
The arrow on the view above shows the location of the best panel at this site. It can be seen from the road if you know where to look but the angle of the sunlight makes a difference. Here the panel is in shadow. | This is a photo of that panel taken with a drone. It can be viewed from the road with binoculars but is best seen in sunlight. |

This photo shows the location of the westernmost panel that I think belongs to site 35. | This a photo of that panel taken with a telephoto lens. There are numerous small images here, some of which have been eroded. |
This panel is between the one just above and the Sandhill Crane panel. You can actually see the largest rock on top in the left-most picture just above, at the far right. That should help you to find this panel. | This is a photo of the panel at left but this land is posted as private so the panel is best viewed with binoculars. Notice that this is another example of petroglyphs pecked on top of previous petroglyphs; the large figure at left was obviously made later on top of the smaller figures to the right. |
The Spangler book mentions a panel of a large elk picked in outline; this seems to be that panel, at the level of the Sandhill Crane panel above. It is located on the west wall of the mouth of Current Canyon. | This panel is located above the one at left at the top of the west wall near the mouth and is difficult to see without binoculars. I took a closer photo of this just below at left. |
This panel is not mentioned in the Spangler book at all because it is farther to the right of the mouth of Current Canyon. It can be seen from the parking area but is best |
