Site 66
Site 66 is about a third of a mile from the intersection of Dry Canyon road and Nine Mile Canyon road. The site is actually just a tad east of being across from the mouth of the canyon since the road intersects with Dry Canyon road about a third of a mile west of the mouth of Dry Canyon. Site 66 is also called Rasmussen Cave and is one of the most famous sites in Nine Mile Canyon, partly because researchers have done a lot of investigating in this area, discovering human burial sites and other artifacts over the years. But the cave itself is actually just an alcove in the side of the cliff and is best known for the outrageous vandalism done to one of the best pictographs in the entire canyon area. It is understandable that the owners of private property would want to excude traspassers from their land but that notice could have been done in a way that would not deface such a wonderful example of ancient art. There are other petroglyphs and pictographs near by that I hope to add to this page in the future.
