Sunflower
Helianthus Annuus is the common sunflower, a member of the Aster family, found all across America. The plants often grow tall, sometimes taller than humans, and are most plentiful in the late summer. These flowers host edible seeds in the fall. These flowers seem impervious to drought and grow profusely along side the road that leads to my house, despite the hot dry weather that is common during the summer. The picture below was taken during the hottest and driest August in Utah weather history.
