Quarters
The quarter was deemed important early on in the history of our nation.
It was first designed with the Draped Bust image, like other coins of the time
but was made that way only until 1807 and due to the low number of coins made,
is quite valueable today, even in very poor condition, bringing a minumum of several
hundred dollars. Consequently, this design does not appear in the U.S. Types book that I
have in my collection but even so, I do have one specimen. The next design was the Liberty
Cap image, also used on other coins of the time, but these were not actually minted until 1815, leaving
a gap of 8 years without any new production of quarters. This coin was followed by the Liberty Seated in
1838 and the Liberty Head (Barber) in 1892. In 1916 the Standing Liberty appeared, followed by the Washington
quarter, in 1932, which is still being minted at the present day.
