Weeki Wachee Springs
Weeki Wachee Springs is located near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Florida state road 50, north of Tampa. The spring is the outflow of an underground river which on the surface becomes the Weeki Wachee River and runs for 12 more miles before emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. The spring is about 100 feet across and more than 150 feet deep, containing unusually clear water at a temperature of 74.2 degrees. The underwater theater, which cost about a million dollars, was built in 1947.
