Canadian Geese

This is a 135mm telephoto shot of Canada geese on Silver Lake in Rochester, Minnesota. Silver Lake is a wide spot in the Zumbro River which flows through Rochester and there is an area of the lake that is warmed by water from the local power plant which uses it for cooling. Thus, part of the lake does not freeze in the winter time. Consequently, a quantity of these geese have found it to be a location where they can live year round and during the years that I lived in Minnesota, their numbers were steadily growing, to the detriment of some of the loca residents. Others, however, have enjoyed the geese and the local cornfields have become a popular place to hunt geese.
