P-40 Warhawk

The Curtiss P-40 Warhawk, often called "The Flying Tiger", was the only fighter plane being manufactured in quantities when World War II broke out.   It saw action first in China and Burma with General Claire Chennault's Volunteer Group.  It was later used by the R.A.F. in the Middle East.
