Airplanes4 Success!
Despite some unexpected developments, I was able to find time during the summer of 2002 to build an entirely new aircraft, a SIG Riser. This is a 2-meter sailplane and was a kit that I purchased about 1990 for my oldest son and his friend. They wanted to build and fly a plane and I picked this model as a good choice for them to start out in building and flying. Unfortunately, they quickly lost interest after constructing only one wing panel and the kit sat in my hobby room for the next 12 years. I added a power pod, also from SIG, and installed a 600 speed electric motor. The plane was finally ready to fly over the Labor Day weekend and Jared and I went back to the model airport. To our everlasting delight, the wind was light and the plane took off on our first attempt, flying beautifully around and around until Jared brought it down next to me, just off the south end of the runway. Here is a video clip of the flight: Riser Video
