Sacagawea Dollar
2000 to ?

In the year 2000, the government released another 'quarter' sized dollar coin, the Sacagawea dollar, the design of which had been selected from more than 100 submissions to a national contest. The reverse of the coin features an eagle in flight. With a distinctive gold color, the coin is easily distinguished from the Anthony dollar and from quarters currently in use. But like the Anthony dollar, these coins are rarely seen in circulation, due to the popularity of the Washington dollar bill. Near perfect mint examples can be worth $4 to $10. This coin was not released into circulation from 2002 to 2008 and again from 2012 to the present. And since 2009, the dollar coin, like the quarter, has seen an annual design change.
This is a proof coin I recently acquired.   The reverse of this coin design can be seen below although the reverse changes each year.

The coin above is an uncirculated example from 2013. I also have a complete set of uncirculated examples that are worth about $2. each that reside in a Dansco folder and 3 MS 64 and MS 65 coins worth $4 to $5 each.   This is the reverse of the coin from 2013. Each year since 2009 has seen a different design here.
