The Perseus Double Cluster
The Perseus Double Cluster is the common name for the open clusters NGC 884 and NGC 869. Although formed at somewhat different times, 884 at about 3.2 million years ago and 869 at about 5.6 million years ago, they lie at distances of 7600 and 6800 light-years away, respectively, so they are reasonably close to one another in space. Each cluster is approaching the solar system at just over 20 km per second. Their hottest main sequence stars are of type B0.
