Clavius

The large crater shown below in the leftmost portion of the frame is Clavius, one of the favorite targets of astrophotographers.

 

Taken about 5:30 A.M. September 10, 2001, with the C-14 operating at F:11.  Exposure was the shortest possible, 0.01 second on the 237 camera.   The seeing was very poor which was a little surprising since a cool front had just passed through and the sky was very clear.  But since the moon was in exactly the right position to photograph Clavius, I could not resist capturing this.
