NGC 6995- The Veil Nebula
The Veil is a supernova remnant in Cygnus that lies about 1400 light-years from Earth. The progenitor star exploded approximately 10,000 years ago and would have been a brilliant sight in our skies at that time, rivaling the full moon.

The entire supernova remnant- taken early November, 2009, with the ST-8 camera and the 105mm lens. Exposure is 30 minutes through each filter. I also took a set of 60 minute exposures but was disappointed to realize that there was almost no improvement in the brightness of the Western portion of the nebula. |
