NGC 1624

NGC 1624 is a small open cluster of only a very few stars embedded in a faint nebula.   The cluster itself is relatively tight, and is surrounded by a faint, round haze. Located in the constellation Perseus, it can be seen in a 6-inch or larger scope, but is much more easily detected through a nebula filter, such as the Oxygen 3.

Image taken March, 2009, with the Celestron F:7 focal reducer on the C-14. Exposure was 20 minutes Red, and 14 minutes each through Green and Blue. It is obvious that I need considerably more exposure to bring out the nebula surrounding the cluster and I hope that this will happen some day. It may be that my H-Beta filter will help.
