NGC 6819

NGC 6819 is an open cluster in Cygnus that lies about 7,200 light years from our solar system. It contains about 25 stars of 10th to 12th magnitude and a number of fainter ones in a region of the sky that is about 5 minutes of arc in diameter. The cluster seems to be quite old, and may be 2 billion years of age or more.

Image taken July 25, 2012, with the C-14 operating at F:3.5 and the ST-8 camera binned 2 X 2. Exposure total was 5 minutes.
