M96

M96 is another member of the Leo I group of galaxies which lie about 38 million light years from Earth but this object appears to be just a bit more than that. M96 is several times brighter than its counterpart, M95, and is more easily seen in smaller telescopes. Studies have shown that the galaxy is approximately the same size as our Milky Way and contains a mix of old yellow stars and young blue ones. A supernova was seen in M96 in 1998.
