M107

M107 is a bit smaller and dimmer than most other globular clusters with a Messier number but still presents a reasonable view in moderate instruments. This object lies about 21,000 light-years from Earth and is unusually open for a globular, allowing those with larger telescopes to view the inner regions of the cluster more easily. Some of these inner regions of M107 appear to be partially obscured by dust, a rare condition in globular clusters.

Taken June 25, 2012, with the C-14 operating at F:3.5 and the ST-8 camera binned 2 X 2. Exposure is 400 seconds. The moon was a waxing crescent.
