Libra
Libra, The Scales, is in the zodiac but while relatively large, is quite faint, containing only two 3rd magnitude stars. Zubenelgenubi is a binary system with wide separation, easily split with modest equipment, lying about 77 light years from Earth. The primary is a type A star and its companion is a type F. Zubeneschamali is a type B blue star lying 160 light years distant. It is often referred to as a dwarf, althought being actually slightly larger than the sun, because type B stars are usually much larger and despite its size, this star is about 130 times as luminous as our sun. Zubeneschamali is spinning rapidly, more than 100 times as fast as Sol. It appears slightly greenish colored, the only naked eye star that does so.
Although part of Libra lies in the Milky Way, there are no deep space objects of note in this constellation.
The Scales are pretty far south and can be seen easily only in early summer. It lies just to the west and a bit above Scorpio.
