Cassiopeia.
Cassiopeia lies in the northern Milky Way and is circumpolar from medium U.S. latitudes. It hosts several open clusters and two large emission nebulae. 2nd magnitude Caph is an F2 giant star about 54 light years from Earth. It is a binary system with the primary being about 130 times our sun's luminosity. Shedir, also 2nd magnitude and spectral type K0, is larger and brighter, with a luminosity of about 855 times our sun, but is much more distant, lying about 230 light years from our solar system. Ruchbah, which is a bit brighter than 3rd magnitude, is an A5 star some 63 times our sun's luminosity and lies at a distance of about 99 light years away. This star is an eclipsing binary with a period of about 460 days.
