Canis Minor

Canis Minor (the Little Dog) is a small constellation east of Betelgeuse in Orion and north of Monoceros. It can be seen from Christmas to May and is famous only for containing one really bright star - Procyon, the 7th brightest star in the night sky and one of the closest to the solar system. At zero magnitude, Procyon stands out in this part of the sky which is devoid of any notable other objects, except for Gomeisa, a third magnitude blue-white main sequence object. Procyon is a yellow-white main sequence star lying at a distance of 11 1/2 light years, and it has a white dwarf companion. The Little Dog does host a minor meteor shower which can be seen in early December.
